What to expect

Once the Tool Library opens, members will be able to:

1. Join the Tool Library.

2. Browse the available tools.

3. Reserve the tools they need.

4. Collect them from Churchill Neighbourhood Centre.

5. Use them for the approved loan period.

6. Return them clean, complete and on time.

The final membership process, borrowing limits, loan periods and costs will be announced before opening.

What we plan to offer

The Tool Library may include:

• Hand tools

• Screwdrivers, spanners and socket sets

• Measuring and marking tools

• Gardening tools

• Hoses and watering equipment

• Painting and decorating equipment

• Cordless drills and drivers

• Sanders and selected power tools

• Pressure washers

• Other useful DIY and home-maintenance equipment

The final collection will depend on funding, donations, safety assessments and volunteer capacity.

Specific tools cannot be guaranteed and all loans will be subject to availability.

Using tools safely

Members will be expected to:

• Be aged 18 or over

• Follow the borrowing conditions

• Read and follow the tool’s instructions

• Use tools only for their intended purpose

• Wear suitable clothing and personal protective equipment

• Stop using a tool immediately if it becomes damaged or unsafe

• Report damage, faults or missing parts

• Not repair, modify or lend borrowed tools to another person

• Return tools clean and complete

Some tools may require a safety demonstration or additional approval before they can be borrowed.

Using tools safely

The Tool Library provides access to tools. It does not provide a home repair or trades service.

Churchill Tool Library volunteers will not:

• Visit your home or worksite

• Deliver or collect tools

• Transport tools for you

• Complete the work for you

• Operate tools on your behalf

• Provide professional building or trades advice

Borrowing a tool does not authorise someone to undertake electrical, plumbing, gas, building or other work that must legally be completed by a licensed or qualified person.

Donating Tools

We will welcome suitable donations to help establish and expand the Tool Library.

However, please do not bring tools to the Centre until we have confirmed that we can accept them.

Before accepting a tool, we may need information about its:

• Brand and model

• Age and condition

• Parts and accessories

• Batteries and chargers

• Known faults or damage

• Safety features and guards

We may be unable to accept tools that are damaged, incomplete, unsafe, recalled, heavily modified or unsuitable for community borrowing.

Accepted tools will become the property of Churchill Neighbourhood Centre and may be used, repaired, recycled or disposed of as appropriate.
