Community Cooking is a hands-on cooking program where learning and giving back happen at the same time.
Led by Deb, participants cook together, develop practical kitchen skills and learn how to prepare nutritious, affordable meals.
Some people join to learn, while experienced home cooks are also welcome to volunteer their skills and work alongside the group.
Food prepared during the program supports the Churchill Neighbourhood Centre Food Bank and helps provide home-cooked meals for people in our community.
Each week the group works together to prepare real meals while developing practical skills such as:
Preparing and following recipes
Basic food preparation and cooking techniques
Safe food handling and kitchen practices
Budget-friendly meal planning
Batch cooking and meal preparation
Preparing nutritious meals
Portioning and packaging meals
Making the most of affordable ingredients
Reducing food waste
Adapting recipes and using available ingredients
Working efficiently as part of a kitchen team
You can come to learn, volunteer or do a bit of both.
All ingredients, cooking equipment and recipe materials are provided.
Please wear comfortable, cooking-appropriate clothing and let us know of any relevant food allergies or dietary requirements when enrolling.
Food prepared during the sessions is made for our community food relief programs, so you do not need to bring containers to take food home.
Classes run for 10 sessions each term.
