Our History

Aboriginal cultures are the world’s oldest continuing living cultures, spanning at least 65,000 years. The Gunaikurnai, comprising five major clans, are the Traditional Owners of much of Gippsland. 

The Victorian Government and the Housing Commission of Victoria announce plans to build a new satellite town to eventually replace Yallourn and house workers for a massive new power project. The planned name for the town is Hazelwood.
