Mental Health First Aid teaches adults how to recognise and respond when someone may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis. Participants learn how to start a supportive conversation, provide initial assistance and encourage professional help.
The course does not teach diagnosis, counselling or treatment.
What to expect
What to expect
The course combines instruction, discussion, videos and practical scenarios. It covers depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance use, suicidal thoughts and behaviours, panic attacks, self-injury and traumatic events.
Some content can be confronting. Participants may complete a short assessment after the course to become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider for three years.
