Not every young person has access to a suitable vehicle, driving lessons or someone who can regularly supervise them.
The planned program will help young people:
Prepare for and obtain their learner permit
Understand Victorian learner-driver requirements
Build safe driving knowledge and confidence
Gain supervised driving experience
Record driving hours correctly
Work towards their probationary licence
CNC will seek sponsorship for a safe and reliable learner vehicle.
Trained volunteer mentors will supervise driving sessions. They will not replace professional driving instructors, and learners may need professional lessons before joining the driving component.
The L to P Program will be the road-safety and licensing pathway within Pitta Patta Driving Academy.
Pitta Patta Driving Academy is being developed to connect young people with:
Safer driving and road awareness
Driver training
Basic mechanics and vehicle maintenance
Practical automotive skills
Supervised motorsport activities
Motorsport officiating and event roles
Community volunteering
Automotive and motorsport career pathways
Road safety comes first. Motorsport activities will take place separately in controlled environments under appropriate safety and event requirements.
The learner vehicle will not be used as a motorsport or competition vehicle.
The program is funded through:
Grants
Donations
Business sponsorship
Philanthropic support
In-kind goods and services
CNC will also seek support for the learner vehicle, fuel, registration, insurance, servicing, tyres and safety equipment.
The program will rely on trained volunteers to support learners and help keep participation affordable.
