Shopping can sometimes feel difficult, confusing or overwhelming.
A community volunteer can walk with you from the Churchill Neighbourhood Centre to the Churchill Shopping Precinct and provide friendly, practical support while you shop.
The volunteer may help you:
Find shops and products
Read labels, prices or signs
Work through your shopping list
Navigate the shopping precinct
Feel more confident while completing your shopping
The volunteer is there to support you. They cannot shop on your behalf or make decisions about what you purchase.
Request an appointment.
Wait for confirmation of the date and time.
Meet your volunteer at the Churchill Neighbourhood Centre.
Walk together to the Churchill Shopping Precinct.
Complete your shopping with up to one hour of volunteer support.
Make your own arrangements to travel home with your purchases.
Please arrive at the agreed time. If you are late, your appointment may need to be shortened or rescheduled.
You must remain in control of your own money and payments at all times.
Volunteers will not:
Hold or carry your cash, cards or phone
Handle your wallet or purse
Enter a PIN or access your banking
Withdraw money
Pay for purchases
Choose how your money is spent
Borrow, lend or accept money
Keep receipts or change
You must be able to walk with the volunteers and make and complete your own payments.
Shopping Support does not include transport, home visits or delivery.
Volunteers will not:
Pick you up from home
Meet you at your home
Drive you to or from the shops
Travel with you in a private vehicle, taxi or public transport
Take your shopping home
Visit your home before or after the appointment
The volunteer will meet you at the Churchill Neighbourhood Centre and walk with you to the shops.
You must be able to:
Travel to and from the Churchill Neighbourhood Centre independently
Safely participate in a walking shopping trip
Manage your own money and payments
Make your own purchasing decisions
Carry or arrange transport for your purchases
Treat volunteers, shop staff and community members respectfully
If you have accessibility requirements, please discuss them with us before requesting an appointment.
Shopping support will be available by confirmed appointment and subject to volunteer availability.
Each appointment will provide:
Up to one hour of volunteer support
One appointment per person each month
Support within the Churchill Shopping Precinct
All appointments begin at the Churchill Neighbourhood Centre.
While we don't charge you to access, we fundraise to run this service.
